CONSTRUCTION CODE REQUIREMENTS

PART 1 - GENERAL 

1.1 RELATED DOCUMENTS

  1. Drawings, general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, and other related sections apply to work in this section.

1.2     SUMMARY

  1. This section includes the following:

  1. Construction code requirements for all construction at Texas Tech University.

1.3 SECTION INTENT

  1. The Board of Regents at the Texas Tech University System (BOR) adopts the official construction codes to which all construction on the campuses of the Texas Tech University System shall adhere.  The following specifies all pertinent codes.

PART 2 – CONSTRUCTION CODE REQUIREMENTS

2.1 CODES

  1. It is the policy of the BOR to make all construction/renovation projects conform to the most current edition of the following codes:

  1. Uniform Building Code;

  2. National Electrical Code;

  3. Uniform Plumbing Code;

  4. NFPA 101, Life Safety Code;

  5. National Fire Protection Association Codes and Standards;

  6. ANSI/ASME A17.1 Safety Code for Elevators and Escalators;

  7. ANSI Z136.1 Standards for Safe Use of Lasers;

  8. State Insurance Board requirements governing fire sprinkler systems;

  9. U. S. Environmental Protection Agency regulations;

  10. ASHRAE Standard 90 A, B & C – Energy Conservation in New Building Design;

  11. U. S. Department of Health, Public Health Service Regulations and guidelines;

  12. State statutes regulating, but not limited to, the following:

  1. asbestos

  2. boilers

  3. control of radiation

  4. energy consumption

  5. fire escapes

  6. fire alarms

  7. plumbing fixtures

  1. Texas Accessibility Standards of the Architectural Barriers Act, Article 9102, Texas Civil Statutes;

  2. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) – Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities;

  3. U. S. Department of Labor Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) regulations; and

  4. Any other applicable codes deemed necessary by the project’s nature shall be specified during the design development review process.
